Local author writes for his supper.
Provo resident Steve
Miller is a most unusual author. Most authors wait years to wait for their books
to be reviewed and published but Steve is very very different, he self published
his book series and sells them in local book stores himself. It is 'My sole
source of income'. When the economy crashed Steve had very few options for
employment. He was an out of work Veteran with a commission sales job in a down
economy with a family to feed. So he did the only thing he could think of,
innovate.
Steve started to self
publish, and found that his first book: 'Captain Justo From The Planet Is'sells quite quickly. He was able to sell it on local books stores and soon
was able to rely on books sales as his only source of income. He set up shop so
to say by working with local Eborn Books, and set up in front of stores in the
Wasatch Front. Steve often sells 15-20 books a day. But he works at it every
day, except Sunday, which he reserves for his family.
With over four
thousand books in print, Steve often can be seen standing in front of local
stores talking to people and signing books.
Captain Justo, The Valley of
Bones was written on two continents, North America and
Eastern Africa. Between 2010 and 2011 Stephen was privileged to work in
Mogadishu, Somalia, overseeing the construction of three military grade fuel
depots. While there, he lived at the Peace Hotel, an armed compound on the
outskirts of the warlord controlled old city and just outside the African Union
controlled airport base.
While in Mogadishu he lived less
than a mile away from intense firefights and rocket attacks. The threat of
kidnappings and constant danger gave him firsthand knowledge for what it is like
to live among warlords and pirates. Captain Justo, The Valley of
Bones is influenced by the real life
adventure he experienced in Mogadishu, Somalia, the most dangerous city in the
world.

Stephen Miller was
born in Provo, Utah in 1962. While attending Provo High School he competed with
the debate team and won several statewide debate competitions. After a rather
traumatic move to Payson, Utah, he received high marks at statewide drama
competitions. His team won the state championship for two years
running.
While a junior at
Payson High he met his future wife, Edna Snelson, who was later crowned Miss
Payson. They would meet again while attending Brigham Young University, fall in
love, get married and raise seven fantastic children
together.
Graduating from high
school with honors, Stephen started his adventurous life by joining the Utah Air
National Guard. After a year he took an ecclesiastical leave and served an LDS
mission in Rio DE Janeiro, Brazil.
Steve Miller attended
Brigham Young University where he studied Portuguese, physics and aerospace
studies. He continued working with the Air National Guard while in school but
was accepted into the ROTC Program where he received a commission in the United
States Air Force.
Graduating from BYU,
Steve Miller attended Navigator School at Mather Air Force Base, when Captain
Justo from the Planet Is was first told as a bedtime story to his children.
His children loved the story so much they begged to have it written
down.
As Steves' children
grew so did the manuscript, and was added upon and modified as well until in
2008, after over fifteen years of development, Captain Justo from the Planet
Is was published by TriQuest Publishing. Captain Justo, The Valley of
Bones is the next installment in the most original space adventure in the
universe.
